The man reportedly demanded that he be put in touch with the Iranian embassy to deliver a message to the French government, police sources said. The area around the the Mixicom computer store in the 10th arrondissement of Paris, close to the Gare du Nord Eurostar hub, was ringed off by police on Tuesday. A police source said the hostage-taker initially hit one person who was able to escape. The victim was reportedly injured after being hit with a wrench as the man entered the shop. The attacker, who appeared to be brandishing a fake weapon, doused his remaining two hostages in petrol, the source said. One of those hostages is a pregnant woman. He also claimed to have explosives in a bag, another source said. Members of the elite Research and Intervention Brigade (BRI) arrived on the scene (top and bottom right) with an armoured screen (left), pushing it towards the door in Rue des Petites Ecuries, where the siege was taking place.
